FirstLight Trust is no longer one of Hereford’s best kept secrets but instead plays an important role for many veterans and the local community offering support to those that need it most. We of course still deliver a superb cup of coffee and legendary homemade cakes and scones to go along with some new additions such as soups and quiches with many ingredients now coming from our established allotment.
Our veterans often get involved in growing fresh vegetables to supply our hubs with ingredients for cooking and your cup of coffee plays a big part. Coffee grounds are a great fertilizer adding nutrients to the soil whilst also keeping pests such as slugs and snails away from our fresh produce. We always have plenty of coffee grounds to go around and welcome any local gardeners or community groups to come down and pick some up for their own projects.
Since we opened our doors the Hereford Hub
- Has had over 9000 visits by veterans to our hub
- Has supported veterans 2500 times to take part in activities to improve their physical and mental wellbeing
- Has worked with veterans over 2000 times on a 1-1 basis to develop any support needed
- Has dedicated over 15,00o hours of paid staff time to the support of veterans
You can continue to support FirstLight by simply buying coffee and cake from the Hereford Café Hub. This provides income to help support the hundreds of veterans who come seeking aid with homelessness; mental health issues; loneliness; family problems; debt; ill health.
We have been blown away by the support and generosity of the local community and are dedicated to maintaining are ‘open door policy’ to the local community and all those that have supported us. We welcome everyone to become a part of the cycle of support within the Hereford community by simply visiting our hub and enjoying a superb cup of coffee and a slice of cake!
